Coolant and Air Temperature Sensors

A typical GM Coolant Sensor

The coolant temperature and Inlet-Air temperature are important factors for the ECU when considering its injection timing. For exmaple, when the engine is cold, more fuel is required to get conisitant ignition. Likewise, when the air temperature is particularly high, the amount of air (due to gas laws) is less, hence less fuel needs to be injected to maintain the optimum air/fuel ratio.

There are, in general, two main types of sensor. Those suited for GM/Bosch management systems, (such as BMW, Vauxhall, Fiat, VW, Citroen etc), and those suited for Ford management. We can support either type with our range of engine management systems.

The V3 ECU is setup for either GM type sensors or Ford type sensors at time of ordering, so if you wish for any reason to change your sensor type, then the ECU will need to be to us for a re-spec. Our V4 EMS is fully programmable to your sensor type, so is universal in its use.

We will advise you when ordering which type of sensors to use, but in general, if your engine already has them, (which they should if it was previously standard engine) then no changes will need to be made.
