M-Tech MEV Sonic GT400-R
From M-Tech Automotive
Well, being a kit car lover at heart, it was about time we started building domething Extreme... Mills Extreme Vehicles to be correct, and in more dteial, the iconic Sonic-7.
A RWD Transverse moutned ford powerplant and a short assembly time is what we are after, and is exactly what the Sonic-7 delivers.
Most builders out there rely on a standard 1.6-2.0 Zetec, standard management, and all round good fuel economy akin to your Ford Mondeo. Yes, the thing literally SHIFTS as a result of its 500Kg Kerb-Weight, but sometimes, that just isnt enough!
The first experience we have of the Sonic was Throttle-bodying Stuarts demonstrator, making a healthy 170BHP, which, I can assure you, was QUICK.
So, we thought.... lets take it one step further...
07/07/09 | Buying Our Kit
We had our Sonic7 kit delivered mid June, and it wasnt long after that we set to work getting the rolling chassis built up. This included fitting the brake lines and coolant lines before fitting of the bodywork, and of course only being able to handle it in free time (which we don't get much of! Not even the evemings or weekends anymore!) we have it rolling on its own four-wheels around a month later.
So what is going to set this little Sonic apart from the others?
Well firstly, the 400 in the name comes from it delivering 400BHP/Tonne. How do we propose to do this? With a throttle-bodied ST170 Duratec (Zetec) engine from the ST170 Focus. These make around 200bhp with over 180Ft/Lbs of torque once mapped, and indeed, it should certainly turn a few heads!
12/12/09 | Brakes & Suspension
Well we havent really put as much time into the car as I would of liked. It's been manic here at M-Tech so I'm not complaining, just strange how it changes from our "we'll have it built in two weeks" theory when it first arrived!
Anyway, we've spent a few nights on it the last couple of weeks and now have all of the suspension fitted, as well as the front wilwood calipers, rear focus calipers, all the brake pipes, master cylinders and handbrake such that in effect we have the complete brake system finished.
More to come as and when we get a chance to crack on!
8/05/10 | Can we get to Japfest 2010??
Well, we have the dyno going to Japfest at Castle Combe, and a massive 20m stand, as well as some track time, so we thought it best we get this car ready to rock and roll and give it a few laps!
We have had a busy week, and heres the pics of how we stand. With only 4 days to go, we hope to have it all buttoned up and done for then! Watch this space!!
