Nick's Throttle Bodied Clio 172

Nick brought us his car after reading about us on various forums. He has chosen to take his 2.0 Clio that bit further by allowing us to fit Jenvey Tbs and V4 management.

Before we got too far into the project we always like to baserun the car on the rollers to see what we are starting from amnd the results can be seen below:

As can be seen, Nicks car is producing just under 160bhp. Although low for a '172', its the common figures we expect to see from this engine. With management alone we can get it up to over 170bhp, but we're after some real NA Power here, hence Nick wanting to go for Jenveys.

One of the main considerations when converting from the standard electronic throttle to TBs is the fact we will need to modify the pedal to allow a cable fitment. For this we make a custom pedal and mounting bracket, and then affix it to the standard pedal mounts.

The first step is to remvoe the standard inlet manifold and plenum....

The V4 engine management system directly supports the standard Clio sensors and coil pack, so its case of linking the V4 wiring harness into the Renaults...

Next we build up and install the Jenvey TB setup...

The clio utilises a pump regulated rail pressure, so instead of using an aftermarket rail, the neatest and cleanest method of installing TBs is to utilise the OEM rail. Note the pressure regulator is 'missing'. Thats just how it rolls out of the factory. Strange... but it works...

For this we need a couple of custim moutning brackets, which we machine up and then use to hold the rail in place for a factory look.

Finally, we connect up the brake servo to the manifold take off that we installed before assembling the bodies. Whilst we're at it, we fit the air horns, check everything is tight and then connect up the injectors.

Finally, we load a basemap, and strap ehr down to the rollers for the final mapping.

The results? Here you can see an overlay of the before, and then the after of an M-Tech V4 powered Jenvey Tb Conversion.
